Update for David,

I was told to reach out to your local Senior Center for tech tutoring. If there isn’t a Senior Center, contact your local library to find more information. Many have videos which you can watch and there may be some in-person events you can attend. Bad thing about videos is that if they’re 6 months or older, the details will be outdated.

If you give me a state, my friend has a list of resources available which I can share. She’s from the Felton Institute here in California.

Best,

Joshua

Hello David,

Gmail will do away with standard view only completely. This has been talked about on a few of the blind listservs and people are planning to move to email platforms like Outlook or learn to use the web-based version. It’s accessible and has been for a while. Learning how to use the new web interface will keep you up to date on all the ways to interact with web pages.

There are some blind tech listservs but one of the main ones just recently folded. I know of a few tech companies in the California bay area that assist with tech tutoring for the aging population and small businesses. For instance, there’s cforat.org in Oakland and there’s a few home automation groups that are looking to work with low tech & disabled individuals.

Truthfully, I don’t know how I would have known about these services if I didn’t already know someone involved.

Best,

Dear WebAIM Members,

Two separate topics but will be concise.

First, GMail is to do away with "basic GMail" on January 1st, opting
for standard view only. I prefer basic GMail, and wonder if any
supportive links will still keep this option alive? I heard there has
been some pushback on this decision applied to Google.

Second, tech tutoring. Are there any online services that will aid
one in developing skills to better use their computer, mobile devices,
and Zoom or similar programs to Zoom?
Or, have options solely moved to online instructive DIY tutorials?

Thank you for your assistance, and this group. Best to each for the
coming days and approaching new year.
