This is a "shortcoming" in Adobe's PDF Maker plug-in for MS Office (not just for Word).

The PDF Maker plug-in is the conversion utility that converts the Word document to a PDF. The settings you choose in the PDF conversion settings (Acrobat ribbon, then Preferences menu) determines which features are built into the PDF.

So, if you'd like to be able to tell PDF Maker that the Title should be set into the PDF rather than the file name, log a feature request at Adobe's online wish list: http://www.adobe.com/products/wishform.html

Adobe added this feature to the PDF export controls in Adobe InDesign and it's very nice, works well. So they can do this to the similar PDF Maker plug-in for Word, too.

The more who go to the wish list and ask, the greater the likelihood we'll get the feature.

Specifics to ask for (you can copy and paste this into the online form):

In the PDF Maker plug-in for MS Office, add additional controls in the PDF Preference settings to make accessible PDFs:
- Set the Display Title options to a drop-down menu with the choices of Document Title or File Name.

Hurry! The more people who ask for this, the faster we'll get the feature built into the next edition of PDF Maker.
