Just a quick follow up. It turned out that I had a stray character in
my smi file. Probably got put in there by Dreamweaver. After reading
the magpie tips on the webaim site I opened the smi file on a linux box
and was able to see it.

I'm seeing text on WMP 8 on Windows XP machine and on WMP 7.1 on OSX.
This would be a lot easier to test with a file that wasn't so huge.
242Mbps for a video that is several minutes in length is a lot to expect
end-users to download...
